London Stone was incorporated in December 2005 by Gavin, Steven & Duncan Walley, three brothers from Stoke on Trent. Gavin, Steven & Duncan all come from a hard landscaping background and it was while working in this industry that they first came across natural stone paving. Looking to diversify their landscaping business, the young entreuprenuers thought importing natural stone paving would complement the existing hard landscaping operation.

Within a month Gavin & Steven were enduring a 16 hour taxi drive across Rajasthan, India to meet up with prospective stone suppliers. Their experience of stone at that time was particuarly limited. Meeting up with their suppliers, Gavin & Steven were shown around quarries in baking conditions of up to 45%. This was December 2005 and it was essential to get some stone shipped to the Uk in time for the 2006 season. Gavin & Steven took a chance and ordered 15 containers of riven Indian sandstone paving.

Meanwhile Duncan was back in the UK searching for storage space. With funds being very low Duncan was forced to look for storage well away from London. Duncan managed to find a farmer in Dorking, Surrey who was willing to let us 200m2 of yard space for a £100 per week. London Stone was born.
